Girls just wanna have fun

The girls are finally here! My sister, Karin, and her friend (now my friend), Monica, are visiting me in Hong Kong for three weeks and they arrived last week. They've had a great time exploring Hong Kong so far and we've done so much already together.

As much as I loved having the apt all to myself, I've really loved having roommates again. I've had the best luck in roommates from Suse, to Lauren, to Megan, to Ashley and now to Karin and Monica. And even though they've only been here a week, it feels like much longer b/c we've gotten along so well. They've done lots of shopping already because the first couple of days here, it was a bit rainy so they stayed indoors. We've made dinners together, technically they made me dinner, discovered the most amazing raisin bread at a local bakery, they've gone sight seeing to several places including a visit to the Big Buddha and Macau! They're really making the most of their trip and having a lot of fun. They're such cute married girls. I often hear them both say things like, "I wish I could share this with Gary" or "I know Jim would love this". I'm sure they'll bring back tons of stories to share with their hubbies but in the meantime, it's a girls only trip and we like it.

Here are a few pics from the delicious dinner they made me:

Dinner with a few friends

They slaved away all afternoon making their own bread crumbs to boot!

And we can't forget about dessert!

Plus a homemade dessert...banana chocolate chip bread (shout out to Mimi for her recipe help on this one!)

I've taken them out to Lan Kwai Fong which is an expat area you you have to check out if you're a newbie to Hong Kong. They told me they didn't even feel like they were in Asia anymore. Here are some pics to take you through the debacle I call "wives gone wild"

Fongs!

Everyone got really into the coats

It was actually over 90 degrees out - silly girls

Dancing and singing machines

New friends

They didn't have a diner near by so we had to stop for the next best thing

Kabobs!

The next day I had to take them to McDonald's for shake shake fries to help them "shake" off their hangover.  Think it worked.

Here goes the fries

Here goes the mix - Honey BBQ - yum

Give it a shake

And you've got a happy girl with shake shake fries!

We also went to a really fun rooftop bbq at my friend's place this past weekend and then went junking together on Sunday. It was their first time going on these very popular boating trips in Hong Kong so they were super excited about it. Karin felt a bit sick from the rockiness of the boat so we took her straight to the beach once we anchored by the shore. She instantly felt much better and got to appreciate what they could only describe as "Fuji" (I heard one of them saying that as they described the water, sand, and scenery to their husband over skype.) They also loved meeting all the people on the boat trip and loved the fact that pretty much everyone on the boat spoke at least two languages - English and their native language. They met so many different ppl from all over including Denmark, Spain, Argentina, Germany, Malaysia, France, Thailand, Australia, Hong Kong, and China. There were probably some I missed, but you get the idea. It was definitely a mixed boat.  I didn't get as many photos from this day as it was just too beautiful to spend time taking photos, but here are a few that we snapped.

Happy sisters

PS. We've also been watching Glee on dvd when we need time to chill or while we make dinner and we've totally gotten Monica addicted. She says the first thing she's gonna do when she goes home, is buy all of season 1's episodes. Sorry Jim, but we've turned her into a gleek! hehe
